Three Trees
oak, birch, walnut
Young oak revered by ancients
symbol of strength.
Acorns hold secrets
Hidden by autumn fallen leaves.
Animals browse
Mother’s many strengths
Tannin provider for clothes,
Ink for writing, medicine.
Wine in barrels staves helps
Resonate oak floors song
Dancing until dawn.
European White Birch
Amber leaves shake, speak summer’s
Prattle in autumn rising light, reflects
Winters snow silence sheet cover
White trunk blends black eyes,
Pepper specks dappled dice
In flour dust on a plate
To create hot pie crust.
Eyes of a Walnut
Look through the open boughs door
See sky blue on the other side
Run through sun auras,
Cross cloud smiles
Stretched freedoms firm grasp
Beholder’s hands; become celebrants
With birds awakened morning notes
Gaze through the limbs
Wide white pupils see ,
Black walnut’s eyes.

I like the imagery of the white birch especially.
"Acorns hold secrets Hidden by autumn fallen leaves." They do! Especially in Celtic lore. Excellent, Richard
